Often times home business owners forget about one of the most important aspects in having a successful business…
Themselves.
Virtual Assistants wear so many hats that they forget that they need to eat right, exercise, have fun, get more training and more. It’s easy to end up doing everything in our business and not leaving enough time for ourselves.
Here are 6 ways that you can invest in yourself for greater success
Take the Time to Eat Right
Eating is something that you must do several times a day. Sure you can grab fast food or order a pizza and save time. But when you think it through, how much time does it really save if it’s destroying your health? That hour saved cooking a healthy meal today may pay off at the end of your life.
The best way to eat healthy while running a virtual assistant business is to prep your food ahead of time. You can buy equipment that makes cooking easier such as a slow cooker. If you are willing to spend the extra money you can even buy items already prepped such as cut-up vegetables.
Get Daily Exercise
Exercise is an important part of every single day if you want to live a long and healthy life. Unfortunately Virtual Assistants spend a lot of time sitting in front of the computer. You need to set aside time in your calendar to exercise.
Consider dropping into your local gym’s fitness classes. Take the dog for a hike, go for a swim find something that you enjoy doing.
Spend More Time with Family
Our time is limited here on Earth, your family will not always be there for you as you won’t for them. It’s very easy to put family on the back burner because the success of your VA business is important for the family.
But your family is more important.
A good way to make sure you are spending time with family is to schedule activities into your calendar like you would any other appointment. Even if it’s just breakfast, movie night or some other weekly outing. If you schedule it in you will treat it as any other appointment in your calendar. Schedule your work around the time with your family. Today could be your last day, or theirs. You just never know.
Save Time for Your Friends
Just because you have a family and a Virtual Assistant business doesn’t mean that you have to forget about your friends. But often, that is exactly what happens. Most VAs and other small business owners get tied up in business friends and business events that they don’t leave room for their friends.
To ensure you keep your friends in your life and that you don’t lose them, make time for them. Even if you see them one time a month, take the time to do that. You’ll be happy you did.
Educate Yourself
Whether it relates to your Virtual Assistant business or not, getting more education is always beneficial to your business. As you work you may find gaps in your knowledge that you can fill with training. Or maybe there is something outside of work that you want to learn such as cooking or photography. Whatever it is, find the time to do it.
To get more education, write out the various things that you’d like to learn. Find the appropriate classes and commit to spending a couple hours a week on it. Learning will improve your outlook and your business too. Don’t forget, if the training is business related you can use it as a business expense.
Investing in yourself may seem like a lot of work. But the truth is, the more you invest in yourself, the more you will have to give to others and the most successful and happy you will be.
